"Father, change me through your Spirit...from the inside out!" In Jesus name, Amen.
Holding His Hand:
It is the most powerful waterfall in North America. More than six million cubic feet (168,000 m³) of water fall over the crest line every minute in high flow,[1] and almost 4 million cubic feet (110,000 m³) on average (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls). It has the capacity to produce nearly 4,700,000 Kilowatts of electricity. The water brings life and power to the surrounding regions. To stand before it and hear its roar and feel its raw power is an amazing experience.
As a believer, you should know that the Spirit of God is a resource of strength and power that comes directly from God Himself in ways and measures greater than any natural resource!. The Bible teaches us that the Spirit of God is the life giving, powerful essence of God that is given to you so that you can be like Jesus, overcome the difficulties of life, and know God more intimately. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God on the earth. He is not an "it", but a person.
The Bible refers to this spiritual reality in several places. Notice the characteristics of God's presence as a river:
Ps 46:4There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
There is joy and gladness that comes as a result of the moving of God's Spirit among the people of God. You are the tabernacle, temple of the Holy Spirit...the holy place of the Most High.
Re 22:1 - And he showed me a pure* river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Notice that He flows as the pure essence of God from the very throne of God's presence in heaven.
Ezekiel 47:1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east, for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under the right side of the temple, south of the altar...
Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of the river. 7 When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very many trees on one side and the other. 8 Then he said to me: "This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. 9 And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.
10 It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. 11 But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt. 12 Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine."
The vision of Ezekiel describes with vivid images the nature of the River of God. He flows toward the eastern region. That is the dry places. When you feel spiritually dry, it is the moving of God's Spirit upon your heart that will bring refreshing.
He flows to the valley. That is the low or deep places. There is a resource of God's very essence who intends to go into the deep places of your heart to bring restoration.
He is a Healing River. Wherever the river goes, healing restoration and life are the result. He goes to the sea which is the Dead Sea. Are there some dead places in your heart? He is the resource of LIFE!
Notice that says that the River caused growth where the fruit would not fail and the leaves would not wither. That means that God's presence in your life will enable you to bear the "fruit of the Holy Spirit"- Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."
Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.
We have determined in earlier lessons that God is GOOD! So it is no surprise that the Spirit of God is good. All that God's Spirit wants to do in your life is for your good and comes out of the goodness of God.
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."
How do we access this resource of God's nature? Two ways: 1. Faith. The one who believes in Jesus has this promise. When you become a believer in Jesus Christ, God's unlimited resource of life and power comes to dwell within your spirit. As you grow in surrendering to His good healing and strength, you will discover that not only are you blessed, but you become, like the dam at Niagara Falls- a channel of goodness and power. Take the time to study more in the Experiencing Ministry On-line tab under Meeting the Holy Spirit. There is a wonderful video teaching there.
2. Recognize His moving. God is aways on the move (active). His nature is to flow. Growing in accessing the resource of His Spirit is to learn to move with what He is doing. For example, if God is "moving" by trying to emphasize a change in your life in the area of trust, but you are insisting on working on a different area of your life (maybe relationships), then you are missing the power that he is making available to you in the area HE is emphasizing. Where God is at work, He is releasing power and life.
Sharing His Heart
What area of your life is He moving in recently? A deep place trying to heal some old wounds? A dry place needing refreshing? Feel like he is trying to bring life to areas of depression? Healing to relationships? Share with another person today about how you think God is moving in your life. It will help you to learn his voice and recognize his activity.
